  • 2 cups milk any kind you prefer
  • 1 large apple peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom adds a floral, spicy aroma
  • 2 tablespoons sugar can substitute honey or maple syrup

Method
 

  1. Measure out the oats and pour into a dry skillet over medium heat to toast, stirring frequently until golden and fragrant, about 3 minutes.
  2. Add the toasted oats to a saucepan along with milk, sliced apples, cinnamon, cardamom, sugar, and a pinch of salt. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and let the oatmeal cook, stirring gently every few minutes, until it thickens and the apples soften, about 10-15 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, melt the butter or heat the oil in the skillet used for toasting and add a handful of oats or nuts if desired for extra crunch; toast until lightly browned.
  5. Stir the toasted oats or nuts into the cooked oatmeal to add texture and aroma, mixing thoroughly.
  6. Remove from heat, spoon into bowls, and optionally garnish with extra cinnamon, a drizzle of honey, or fresh fruit for presentation. Serve hot and enjoy the warm, fragrant breakfast.

Notes

Adjust sweetness and spices to taste. Using freshly sliced apples enhances the texture and flavor. For creamier oatmeal, add a splash of milk or a dollop of yogurt when serving.
