  • 4 cardamom pods cardamom pods crushed slightly to release flavor
  • 2 star anise star anise
  • 1 orange orange zest and slices for added citrus flavor
  • 1 lemon lemon zest for brightness
  • 1/4 cup honey for sweetness
  • 1 pinch ground cinnamon optional, for extra warmth

Method
 

  1. Pour the entire bottle of red wine into a large saucepan and set it over low heat.
  2. Add the crushed cardamom pods, star anise, and citrus zest slices to the wine. Stir gently to combine.

  4. Stir in the honey and a pinch of ground cinnamon, mixing until the honey dissolves completely.
  5. Gently warm the mixture over low heat, allowing the flavors to meld for about 15-20 minutes without boiling, so the wine stays clear and aromatic.
  6. Strain the heated wine through a fine sieve to remove the spices and citrus pieces, resulting in a smooth, clear beverage.
  7. Pour the strained mulled wine into glasses and garnish with a twist of citrus if desired. Serve warm to enjoy the aromatic, rich flavors.
