Halloween Mummy Meatballs

These mummy meatballs are made by shaping seasoned ground meat into small balls, then wrapping them with strips of dough before baking. Once cooked, the meatballs have a juicy interior with a crispy, golden exterior resembling bandages, and are topped with small googly eyes for a spooky presentation.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 pounds ground beef or ground turkey/chicken
  • 1 cup breadcrumb plain or seasoned
  • 1 medium egg beaten
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 roll crescent dough or pizza dough thawed if frozen
  • small googly eyes for decoration
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil for brushing

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Small rolling pin or knife for dough strips
  • Oven

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground meat, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix everything together until well incorporated and the mixture feels slightly sticky.
  3. With clean hands, shape the mixture into small, evenly sized meatballs roughly 1 inch in diameter and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Roll out the dough slightly and cut into thin strips using a small knife or rolling pin, creating bandage-like strips.
  5. Wrap each meatball with the dough strips, overlapping in a crisscross pattern to resemble bandages, leaving a small space on top for two googly eyes.
  6. Brush the wrapped meatballs lightly with olive oil to promote browning and crispness.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and the meat is cooked through, with juices running clear.
  8. Once out of the oven, gently press two googly eyes onto each meatball’s top where you left space for them.
  9. Allow the meatballs to cool just slightly, then serve them warm for a fun, spooky dish that looks as playful as it tastes.

Notes

For extra creepiness, you can add small bits of black olive or pepper for more detailed facial features. Use store-bought dough for quick assembly or homemade for a personalized touch.
