Ingredients

  • 1 package slider buns preferably buttery, soft buns
  • 1/2 pound smoked ham thinly sliced
  • 8 ounces cheddar cheese sliced
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika

Equipment

  • 9x13 inch baking dish
  • Sharp knife
  • Small microwave-safe bowl
  • Basting brush
  • Aluminum foil

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Lightly grease your baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Gently slice the slider buns horizontally in half, creating a top and bottom layer. Place the bottom halves in the prepared dish, arranging them evenly.
  3. Layer the slices of ham evenly over the bottom buns, covering all the bread surface. Feel free to overlap slices for a generous filling.
  4. Top the ham with slices of cheddar cheese, covering all the ham slices. Use enough cheese to create a gooey, melty layer when baked.
  5. In a small microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. Stir in Dijon mustard, garlic powder, and paprika until well combined.
  6. Use a basting brush to generously spread the seasoned butter mixture over the cut sides of the buns, ensuring all surfaces are coated for flavor and crispiness.
  7. Place the top buns over the layered cheese, pressing down gently to compact the sliders. Brush the tops with more of the butter mixture for extra flavor.
  8. Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil to trap moisture and bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5 minutes to crisp up the top and edges to a golden brown.
  10. Once baked, take the sliders out of the oven and let them rest for 5 minutes. This allows the cheese to set slightly and makes slicing easier.
  11. Slice the sliders into individual portions and serve warm. Enjoy the gooey cheese, tender ham, and crispy tops with your favorite sides!
