  • 1 cup milk whole milk for creaminess
  • 1 piece cinna­mon stick preferably whole
  • 4 cloves whole cloves
  • 1 inch fresh ginger sliced thin (optional)

Method
 

  1. Pour the water and milk into a medium saucepan and place it over low to medium heat.
  2. Add the cinnamon stick, cloves, and lightly crushed cardamom pods to the liquid mixture.

  4. Turn up the heat slightly until the mixture starts to bubble gently, then reduce to low and let it simmer uncovered.
  5. Simmer the mixture for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the spices to infuse the liquid with fragrant oils and aroma.
  6. Stir in your preferred sweetener—sugar or honey—and let it dissolve fully into the warm spice mixture.
  7. Remove the saucepan from heat and strain the liquid through a fine mesh to remove the whole spices and ginger slices for a smooth, aromatic beverage.
  8. Pour the steaming chai spice liquid into cups, revealing a lightly colored, fragrant brew with floating spice remnants on top.
