Ingredients

  • Apple cider 1 liter, preferably unfiltered: Forms the rich, fruity base
  • Cinnamon stick 1 whole: Adds warm, comforting spice
  • Whole cloves 4: Provide deep, aromatic flavor
  • Orange peel 1 strip, about 2–3 inches, pith removed: Adds citrus brightness without bitterness
  • Honey or maple syrup 2 tablespoons, adjust to taste: Adds natural sweetness
  • Optional ginger slices 3–4 slices: Adds gentle heat and depth
  • Optional bourbon 1–2 tablespoons per serving: Adds warmth and richness

Equipment

  • Large saucepan
  • Strainer
  • Mugs
  • Measuring spoons and cups

Method

  1. Pour apple cider into a large saucepan
  2. Heat over medium heat until warm
  3. Add cinnamon stick, cloves, orange peel, and optional ginger
  4. Bring just to a gentle simmer (small bubbles, no rolling boil), then reduce heat immediately to low.
  5. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 20–30 minutes
  6. Stir in honey or maple syrup after simmering and after removing from heat for the cleanest flavor.
  7. Remove from heat and strain out spices
  8. Pour into mugs and serve warm

Notes

You can add fresh ginger slices or a splash of bourbon for extra warmth. Adjust sweetness to your preference, and enjoy this cozy, aromatic drink during chilly evenings.
Add bourbon only after pouring into mugs, not during simmering.
