Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz dark rum preferably aged for richer flavor
  • 1 oz citrus juice lime or lemon juice for acidity
  • 2 tsp simple syrup adjust for sweetness
  • 1 cup ice cubes crushed or whole, enough to chill the mixture

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

  1. Measure the rum, citrus juice, and simple syrup, then add them to the blender.
  2. Add the ice cubes to the blender over the liquid ingredients.
  3. Secure the lid and blend on high speed until the mixture is smooth, slightly frosty, and has a slushie consistency with tiny ice shards visible.
  4. Stop blending and check the texture; it should be thick, icy, and scoopable but not overly frozen. If needed, add a few more ice cubes and blend briefly.
  5. Pour the frozen slushie into glasses, using a spoon to help scoop if needed, and garnish as desired.
  6. Serve immediately with straws or small cocktail umbrellas to enjoy the refreshing, icy brightness of the drink.

Notes

For an extra touch, rim the glasses with sugar or citrus zest before serving. Adjust sweetness by varying the simple syrup amount. Experiment with different citrus juices for varied flavors.
