Watermelon Slice Sculpture with Mint and Feta

This dish involves slicing a large watermelon into thick rounds, which serve as a base for layered toppings. Fresh mint leaves and crumbled feta cheese are added between the slices, creating an edible sculpture with contrasting textures of juicy fruit, creamy cheese, and crisp herbs. The presentation resembles a cake but is entirely composed of chilled watermelon and fresh ingredients, resulting in a striking and refreshing visual centerpiece.

Ingredients

  • 1 large watermelon preferably seedless, cold
  • 1/2 cup fresh mint leaves roughly chopped
  • 1 cup feta cheese crumbled

Equipment

  • Large sharp knife
  • Cutting board
  • Spoon or small scoop
  • Serving platter

Method

  1. Use the large sharp knife and cutting board to cut a large, round watermelon in half horizontally, then slice each half into 1.5-inch thick rounds. Chill the watermelon slices in the refrigerator for at least 10 minutes.
  2. Arrange the largest watermelon slices vertically on a platter, lining them up to form a tiered, cake-like structure. Keep the slices cold and firm to maintain stability.
  3. Spread a thin layer of crumbled feta cheese over the top of the first watermelon slice. Add a small handful of chopped mint leaves evenly across the cheese.

  4. Place the second watermelon slice on top, pressing gently to create an even layer. Repeat layering feta and mint on this slice as well, mimicking a stacked cake.

  5. Continue stacking slices and layering feta and mint until all slices are used, shaping the sculpture. Finish with a final sprinkle of feta and mint on the top layer. Serve immediately for a crisp, refreshing presentation.

Notes

For easier handling, chill all ingredients beforehand. Use a very sharp knife to cut the watermelon cleanly. Serve immediately for the best texture and appearance.
