Forget what you know about margaritas
I’ve been thinking about how often we drink fizzy, sweetened drinks without even realizing we’re thirsting for something real. This watermelon margarita is kind of a middle finger to that. No crushed ice, no syrupy sweetness, just cold, juicy watermelon pureed with a splash of lime. It’s messy, it’s vibrant, and honestly, it feels like sneaking a bite of fresh fruit during a crowded party. No fuss. No pretension. Just the pure taste of summer melting into the complexity of tequila. Everyone’s chasing a way to hold onto that ‘seasonality’ thing. This? It’s just a drink that reminds you of late afternoon sun, the kind you forget about when you’re busy but then suddenly it hits you. It’s not about perfection, it’s about immediacy—like grabbing what’s available and making it special.

Method
- Prepare the ingredients by cutting fresh watermelon into large chunks, removing seeds if present. Measure out lime juice and tequila, and set all ingredients nearby.4 cups fresh watermelon chunks
- Add the watermelon chunks to a blender and blend on high until completely broken down into a smooth, slightly pulpy mixture, about 30-45 seconds.4 cups fresh watermelon chunks

- Chill the mixture in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes for a more refreshing serving temperature. Optionally, rim your cocktail glasses with salt by rubbing lime around the edge and dipping into salt.1 pinch salt
- Pour the watermelon margarita into chilled glasses. Garnish with a small wedge of lime or a small piece of watermelon if desired. Serve immediately, noticing the vibrant pink hue and slightly chunky texture.
Notes
Maybe I’m just tired of pretending drinks need to be complicated. Sometimes all I want is a polka-dot glass, a little messy, a little loud. Summer’s fleeting, and this might be the last watermelon I see this year. Might as well make it count, right?
