Ingredients

  • 2 cups water preferably filtered
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract use pure vanilla for best aroma
  • 2 sticks cinnamon sticks whole and unbroken

Equipment

  • Small saucepan or pot
  • Ladle or spoon

Method

  1. Pour two cups of water into a small saucepan and place it on the stove over medium heat. Watch as it begins to warm and release gentle steam.
  2. Add the cinnamon sticks to the water, submerging them slightly so they can release their warm, spicy aroma as the water heats up.
  3. Slowly pour in the vanilla extract, allowing it to mingle with the cinnamon as the mixture begins to bubble gently.
  4. Reduce the heat to low once the mixture is bubbling softly, and let it simmer uncovered for about 30 minutes, until the water gently reduces and the scent intensifies.
  5. During simmering, occasionally lift the lid slightly to release steam and allow the aroma to waft through your home.
  6. Once the water has reduced slightly and the smell is strong and inviting, turn off the heat and carefully remove the cinnamon sticks.
  7. Pour the fragrant liquid into a decorative bowl or keep warm on the stove to enjoy the cozy, spicy scent that fills your space.

Notes

Make sure to monitor the water level during simmering to prevent it from boiling dry. Refill with hot water as needed to maintain aroma.
